P&G Launches Ecommerce Site

Proctor & Gamble officially launched its new online shopping website today called the eStore after several months of testing with 5,000 consumers.

The eStore is owned and operated by ecommerce firm PFSweb and will feature a wide range of P&G brands including Tide, Pampers, Olay, CoverGirl, Swiffer and Febreze.

According to P&G, the eStore’s main function is to act as a “living learning lab” for improving ecommerce to attract more shoppers. P&G said it will continue to rely on consumer input to make improvements to the eStore and add new features and tools over time.

“The U.S. eStore is an exciting initiative that we feel will help us listen, learn and collaborate with online shoppers to find new opportunities to serve consumers’ household, beauty and grooming needs,” said Kirk Perry, P&G’s Vice President, North America.

“Through our partnership with PFSweb and on-going testing with consumers, we envision the eStore will help deliver new tools, services and features that can ultimately be shared with retailers to provide a real convenience and value for shoppers.”

The eStore will offer a $5 flat rate for standard shipping, no matter the quantity or product size.

Twitter To be Launched on Japanese Cell Phones

Japan’s third-largest mobile communications company is gearing up to assist Twitter become more popular outside USA.  SoftBank has decided to ship a total of 13 different cell phone models with Twitter applications and/or widgets preinstalled.
SoftBank has 22,092,600 subscribers in April and this deal will introduce a whole new market to Twitter.

SoftBank’s even launching a “Twitter Omatome Site” that’ll be bookmarked by default, as well.

Twitter is already rather popular in Japan.  It’s unlikely that there will be a surge of new users.  Few more users are expected to join and also some more usage.
 
The  apps and widgets will of course be free.

European Data Protection Authorities Condemn Facebook

The group of organizations that have an issue with Facebook’s privacy policies has grown again. The Article 29 Working Party expressed its concerns over recent changes.

The Article 29 Working Party “is composed of representatives from the national data protection authorities of the EU Member States, the European Data Protection Supervisor and the European Commission.”  So it’s very much an authoritative organization, not some ragtag group of paranoids.

The Working Party’s message stated “[I]t is unacceptable that the company fundamentally changed the default settings on its social-networking platform to the detriment of a user,” the group declared in a statement.

The Working Party also said, “Providers of social networking sites should be aware that it would be a breach of data protection law if they use personal data of other individuals contained in a user profile for commercial purposes if these other individuals have not given their free and unambiguous consent.”

All Google Services to be integrated with Google Apps

Google Apps users may soon have an ability to access more products and services from on their Google apps accounts. Google intends to let customers remove all restrictions sometime in the next six months.

This will mean that people will be able to do more things using services other than standard productivity offerings like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Groups, and Google Docs.

A post on the Official Google Enterprise Blog explained, “[C]oworkers will be able to publish their organization’s blog on Blogger, share project images with Picasa Web Albums, track industry news in Google Reader, advertise online with AdWords and much more, all without switching back and forth between multiple accounts.”

The official blog post stated, “We intend to have all Standard, Premier and Education Edition customers moved to the new infrastructure that enables this change in the fall, and customers who would like more control over the timing of this change will be able to make the switch voluntarily during the summer.”
